The victim of the December 17, 2013 attack in New Westminster is a young man who is only 19 years old. He is in a coma and not expected to survive his injuries. A 16 year old young person was arrested not long after the offence and will appear in New Westminster Courthouse later this morning.
“The apparent motive for this tragic incident was an attempted robbery. IHIT will be bringing a 16 year old young person to New Westminster Courthouse later this morning to formally face charges of Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon. At this point we have no information to suggest that the victim and the suspect were known to each other. ” Says Sergeant Bari EMAM of IHIT.
The names of the victim and the suspect will not be released at this point. IHIT investigators are expected to continue their investigation for many days to come.
