New Westminster – This month, the New Westminster Police Department has partnered with ICBC to promote distracted driving awareness by ramping up enforcement around New Westminster. This weekend will be no exception, as the NWPD Traffic Unit will be out in full force around the city handing out tickets to drivers who are talking or texting on their cell phones while driving.
“Our main goal with this campaign is to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving so that there are fewer crashes,” said Chief Constable Dave Jones. “Our hope is to educate people so that they put down their cell phones and focus on driving.”
The NWPD Traffic Unit will be out at various locations all weekend and for the rest of the month.
