On July 10th, 2013 at approximately 8:50 pm, the New Westminster Police were contacted by the Surrey RCMP regarding a stabbing victim who had shown up at a local area hospital in their jurisdiction. The initial investigation by Surrey RCMP members indicated that the stabbing had occurred in New Westminster at an apartment in the 400 block of 12th Street.
NWPD members attended to this location and shortly after arrival a suspect was located and taken into custody without incident. The male suspect, a 23 year old New Westminster resident, remains in custody as the investigation continues while the victim remains in hospital in serious condition.
The NWPD Major Crime Unit has taken over this investigation and while the motive for the incident has yet to be determined, it is not believed to be a random attack nor gang related.
