Emergency 9-1-1

NWPD arrest cell phone robbery suspect

On June 20th, 2013 at approximately 12:30 am, a 23 year old male was walking in the 600 block of 20th Street when he was attacked from behind and assaulted. The unknown male suspect punched the victim in the side of the head, took his cellular phone and then fled on foot after a passerby stopped to see what was occurring. This Good Samaritan then assisted the victim to a safe location where police and ambulance were called. The victim was treated by ambulance personnel and transported to hospital for treatment of the injuries he received during the assault, which included stitches to one of his ears.

Responding NWPD members flooded the area and after about 10 minutes of searching located the male suspect in the 1400 block of 6th Avenue, where he was taken into custody without incident. The victim’s cell phone was recovered and the suspect was booked into NWPD cells pending a morning court appearance.

Scott Andrew DUNCAN, a 25 year old Surrey resident has now been charged with the following offence:
1. Robbery – Section 344 of the Criminal Code.

While these types of crimes are not common, the NWPD would also like to take this opportunity to remind the public to be extra vigilant when wearing headphones, especially at night. By reducing your sense of hearing you are making yourself more a more vulnerable target, not only to people intent on doing you harm, but also to hazardous traffic conditions that may be avoided otherwise.
