Members of the NWPD were out in full force as part of Canada Road Safety week, which ran from May 13th to 20th.
Canada Road Safety Week is a national enforcement-driven initiative designed to increase public compliance with and awareness of safe driving measures and, ultimately, to save lives. The enforcement part of the campaign targets impaired driving, lack of proper restraint use, and both aggressive and distracted driving.
During the week, NWPD members issued nine 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions, one 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, 50 Violation Tickets for Speeding, 3 Violation Tickets for no seatbelts, 23 Violation Tickets for Distracted Driving and 24 other Violation Tickets for related offences such as unsafe lane changes or intersection infractions.
