Robbery Suspect Arrested

An observant NWPD Dispatcher assisted in the apprehension of a robbery suspect who is alleged to have committed several robberies in New Westminster on the evening of April 30th.

On April 30th, 2013 at approximately 8:30 pm, a male suspect entered a convenience store in the 300 block of 6th Street and passed a note to the clerk demanding money. After obtaining a small amount of change he fled the store on foot. Later in the evening, at approximately 10:00 pm, a male suspect entered a fast food outlet in the 800 block of Carnarvon, again demanding money; however, none was obtained and the suspect fled. Minutes later, at yet another fast food restaurant, this time in the 1000 block of Columbia, a male suspect entered and demanded money from the staff, fleeing on foot after obtaining a small amount.

NWPD members who attended the robberies believed the same male suspect was responsible for all three based on their review of the various in-store CCTV videos.

Shortly after the third robbery, an alert NWPD dispatcher observed a male subject on the external security CCTV cameras for the NWPD office walking along the 500 block of Clarkson, towards the Columbia Skytrain Station. This dispatcher noted the male subject matched the description of the robbery suspect and alerted NWPD members to his location. The male was located by police on the westbound platform at the Columbia Skytrain Station and taken into custody. Further investigation confirmed the male to be the robbery suspect from all three locations.

Dale Cecil EWIN, a 41 year old New Westminster resident, is now charged with three counts of Robbery under Section 344 of the Criminal Code. His next appearance is set for May 8th, 2013 at New Westminster Provincial Court.
