Despite going into the third period down only 4 – 2, the NWPD Blues Hockey Team were outgunned in the final frame by the New Westminster Salmonbellies, who turned on the afterburners and cruised to a 10 -3 victory, taking the second annual Cops for Cancer Cup.
The real winner on the night however was Cops for Cancer, as over $1800 was raised towards this worthy cause. Since its inception in 1998, Cops for Cancer has expanded across the Province into four incredibly successful Tours which have raised almost $25 million collectively to fund pediatric cancer programs and research.
This year’s NWPD participants are Constable Jaspaul CHUNG and Constable David LEMIRE. Both members will be riding in the Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast from September 18th to the 26th. This 900 km Tour pedals the Sea to Sky corridor as well as the Sunshine Coast, North Shore and cities in Greater Vancouver including New Westminster.
The New Westminster Police would like to thank all those who supported last night’s game, and we would especially like to thank the Salmonbellies organization for graciously hosting this event and helping raise money in the fight to end childhood cancer.
