NWPD to Hold Ceremony to Christen the Police Vessel in Honour of the Late Ken Shaw

On Friday, October 12 at 11:00 am, the New Westminster Police Department will be holding a ceremony to mark the renaming of the police vessel from the current Mike-1 to Shaw-1, in memory of the late NWPD Sergeant Ken Shaw, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2008. Sgt. Shaw’s widow and family members will be in attendance, as well as Chief Constable Dave Jones and Deputy Chief Laurin Stenerson. The event will take place at the Westminster Quay, where the vessel is moored.

“Sgt. Shaw was integral in the Department’s initiation of the Marine Unit,” said Chief Constable Dave Jones. “It’s fitting that our boat should carry his name and honour his memory.”

The public is welcome to attend.
