Translink Bus Driver and Two Passengers Pepper Sprayed

On September 16th, 2012 at 9:46 pm, the New Westminster Police Department received a call of a pepper spraying incident on a Translink bus at McBride Blvd and Colborne Street.  Members attended and learned that the bus driver and two other adult passengers were pepper sprayed by a male associated to a group of people who had fled the scene.

According to witnesses, the bus driver picked up a group of 3 males and 2 females who were under the influence of alcohol at the 22nd Street Skytrain Station. During the bus trip, the bus went over a bump causing one of the males to fall over in his seat. This male got verbally abusive with the bus driver and when the bus stopped at the bus stop at McBride Blvd and Colborne Street, the group left the bus. As the male left the bus he sprayed the bus driver with pepper spray before fleeing on foot with the group. The pepper spray ended up affecting the bus driver and 2 other adult passengers. EHS and NWPD attended the scene and treated the people affected by the pepper spray. No victims required medical treatment at hospital.

The New Westminster Police Department are currently investigating the incident and request that anyone having information on the identity of the suspects please contact Cst. Lemire or Cst. Blue at 604-525-5411.
