NWPD Urge Parents to Keep Children Safe in the Hot Summer Months

Summer has finally arrived in New Westminster and the New Westminster Police Department wants all families to enjoy the weather and have a safe and happy summer. Everyone likes to keep their homes cool by having windows open but with that brings safety concerns for small children. NWPD is urging parents to keep their children safe by ensuring that they do not have access to open windows. Please install window guards to prevent children from falling out of open windows. Guards should be installed in children’s bedrooms, parents’ bedrooms and other rooms where young children spend time. Or, install window stops that permit windows to open no more than 4 inches. Whenever possible, open windows from the top – not the bottom. Also, keep furniture away from windows to discourage children from climbing near windows.
