The New Westminster Police Department are asking businesses to beware of a male impersonating a police officer. On July 2, 2012 at 6:45 pm, a local veterinary business was the victim of a fraud. The male suspect entered the store and was seated in the lobby area for approximately 20 minutes. Another customer was also in the store and paid his bill in cash. Just after that customer left, the suspect presented himself as a police officer with a silver badge and asked to see the cash that the previous customer had paid with as he stated “there was an investigation.” He was given the money and then the suspect gave the receptionist a fake police file number and said he had to leave but that he would return. The suspect quickly left on foot and never returned. The badge he presented was not in any type of holder.
The suspect is described as follows:
- Caucasian
- 30 years old
- Brown hair 2-3” in length
- Stubble
- Yellow/brownish sweater style jacket
- 5ft 9”
- Medium build
- Scar on the lower left side of his lip
Anyone with any information about the above-noted crime is asked to call the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
