Stabbing Investigation – Suspect Charged

On May 15th, 2012 at approximately 0630 hours, two members of a prescription delivery service were making a delivery to an address in the 400 block of 8th Street. As they were standing at the front entrance to the apartment building, a male unrelated to their delivery exited, and for reasons unknown verbally accosted them.

The male’s entered the building and made their delivery, however upon exiting they were again accosted by the same male. They attempted to get into their vehicle to leave, at which time it is alleged the male suspect kicked one of the vehicle’s doors causing it to close on the hand of one of the males. The suspect then attempted to punch this same male in the head, but missed and punched him in the abdomen. The suspect then got into another vehicle, and as he was doing so, the victim who had been punched took several cell phone photos of him.

It was shortly after this, the male who had been punched in the abdomen realized he had actually been stabbed, so he immediately attended a local area hospital for treatment.

The NWPD Major Crime Unit was called and took over the investigation. The suspect was quickly identified and arrested later in the day by the Surrey RCMP.

Michael Stanley WATT, a 50 year old New Westminster resident, has now been charged with one count each of:

  1. Assault causing bodily harm
  2. Assault with a weapon
  3. Mischief

WATT remains in custody and his next court appearance is May 23rd at New Westminster Provincial Court.
