Emergency 9-1-1

Chief Constable Requests External Investigation

On May 10th, 2012 at approximately 2250 hours, NWPD officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at an apartment in the 1000 block of 5th Avenue. The attending members dealt with the disturbance and cleared the scene without taking any enforcement action.

NWPD officers were called back to the same location a second time at approximately 2352 hours, at which time a 22 year old female was taken into custody. During this arrest an altercation occurred between her and the arresting officers.

As a result of this altercation, an NWPD officer with 24 years of service has been re-assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation into the incident.

Although no complaint was initiated, an internal review of the matter resulted in Chief Constable Dave JONES advising the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner of the incident. Also, to ensure transparency on this matter, the Chief Constable has requested that the Abbotsford Police Department take conduct of the investigation, which they have agreed to do.

With the investigation now being conducted by an external agency, the NWPD is unable to comment further and will be referring Media inquiries to the Abbotsford Police Department.
