The New Westminster Police Department Major Crime Unit are currently investigating two separate two separate arsons to a local business in the 400 block of 6th Street, New Westminster, “Amir Family Hair Salon”.
On March 23, 2012 at 0654 hours NWPD and New Westminster Fire Rescue Services Fire were called to a report of a fire at the business. Further investigation revealed an object was used to break a hole in the exterior glass of the business after which a flammable substance was thrown through the hole resulting in a piece of furniture catching fire.
On March 27, 2012 at approximately 01:00 hours NWPS members were alerted by a citizen that this same a business had a fire inside. In this instance, the investigation revealed that several exterior windows were broken and a flammable substance thrown inside resulting in a fire.
While both fires were quickly contained and relatively small they have caused damage and disruption to the business. The NWPD are concerned not only about the damage and interruption to the business in question but for the overall safety of the occupants residing in the residential suites above the business, who have all been put at risk by the dangerous actions of the individual or individuals responsible for the fires.
