On Tuesday October 4th at 2205 Hours, New Westminster Police officers responded to witness reports of a vehicle travelling Eastbound on the Queensborough Bridge swerving on the roadway and striking the curb. Witnesses provided updates as they followed the suspect vehicle; a black Lincoln Navigator SUV.
The suspect vehicle collided with a vehicle parked in the Eighteen Hundred Block of Tenth Avenue. The suspect driver and witnesses were at scene as the police arrived. Attending officers obtained information from the witnesses and driver; officers formed the opinion that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to police headquarters to provide a breath sample.
The suspect driver, a Fifty-Two year old Burnaby resident, refused to provide a sample of his breath. The accused was served court documents and released into the care of a family member.
Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident. Police are recommending charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and, Refusal to Provide Breath Sample. The accused drivers vehicle was also subject to a thirty day vehicle impound.
