Train Bridge Impacted By Gravel Barge

On Tuesday, June 28th at 0442 Hours, the New Westminster Police were contacted by the Coast Guard and advised that the train bridge, located several hundred meters east of the Queensborough Bridge, was struck by a passing tug boat’s gravel barge.

Officers attended the scene in the police boat and confirmed that a section of the train swing bridge was impacted. National railways were notified. Early reports indicate that the damage to the train bridge may be extensive however, that will be determined by the authorities conducting a thorough examination of the train bridge structure.

There are no injuries reported. The Queensborough Bridge was not involved in the collision.
