On June 10 2011 Constable Jeff Klassen was sentenced by Provincial Court Judge Werier in relation to his recent conviction for assault.
Previously on September 23 2009 the Police Act Investigation was suspended, by the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner, pending the conclusion of the criminal investigation and proceedings.
Unfortunate delays within the criminal trial process have prolonged the opportunity to complete this Police Act investigation.
With the conclusion of the trial and the imposing of sentence, the Police Act investigation that was suspended, as a result of the criminal procedures, has now been lifted. The investigation is actively being worked upon by the Professional Standards Unit of the New Westminster Police, including the opportunity to review the materials and submissions made within the criminal proceedings.
The New Westminster Police Service is unable to offer further comment pending the conclusion of the Police Act process.
