On May 2nd 2011 0730 Hours, the New Westminster Police Service received information that during the night, a boat was observed suspiciously stopping at numerous house boats along the Fraser River. Officers attended the area and observed the suspect boat towing another boat on the river in the area of the Nine-Hundred Block of South Dyke Road.
Utilizing the police boat, officers attended a house boat across the river where both suspect boats were being moored. Officers located and interviewed male suspects at the scene. As a result of the police investigation a search warrant was executed resulting in the arrest of three adult males for Possession of Stolen Property over Five-Thousand dollars.
At scene, several thousands of dollars worth of various items, including a power boat, marine equipment, power tools, a laptop computer, generators, outboard gas and electric motors, an inflatable boat, and chainsaws etc. were seized. Many of the items have identifiable markings such as serial numbers. It is believed that the recovered items were stolen from boats and marinas along the Fraser River, not from ocean side marinas or boats.
Three adult males, two with residence in Squamish one in Abbotsford, were arrested. Police are recommending charges of Possession of Stolen Property over Five-Thousand dollars.
