New Westminster Police Officer Constable Jeff Klassen

New Westminster Police officer Constable Jeff Klassen was found guilty in court today in relation to a criminal case stemming from an assault he committed while off-duty in Vancouver in January, 2009.

The Police Act Investigation into this incident, which started back in January 2009, continues. At the conclusion of the Police Act investigation, a Discipline Proceeding will be initiated at which time Constable Klassen’s employment with the New Westminster Police Service will be determined. The Discipline Proceeding’s are anticipated to be scheduled within a few months of the criminal trials completion.

Constable Klassen has been suspended from duty since the criminal charges were laid and the suspension continues. The New Westminster Police Board will meet to review Constable Klassens status of suspension, with or without pay. The New Westminster Police Service will provide comment on this incident at the conclusion of the Police Act proceeding.
