The student responsible for the release of pepper spray has stepped forward to identify themselves to police investigators. The incident is being dealt with internally by school administrators and the school police liaison officer.
On Monday, October 18th at approximately 1300 Hours at New Westminster Senior Secondary, persons unknown released pepper spray in one of the schools hallways. Although the spray was not directed at any one individual or group, the spray is an irritant, derived from capsicum (chili pepper), and causes coughing and excessive mucous from the nasal passages.
New Westminster Fire Services was summoned by our school liaison officer to assist with air fans to clear the hallway of the pepper spray. Although no one was injured as a result of the incident, police are investigating it as a mischief.
