On Wednesday, October 13th at 1245 Hours, New Westminster police were responding to a call for assistance in the Seven-Hundred Block of Princess Street and were responding Code 3 with lights and siren.
As patrol officers travelled North on Sixth Street they stopped before entering the Royal Avenue intersection. With lights and siren engaged, motorists came to a stop before the intersection upon observing the waiting police vehicles. A motorcycle that was heading West on Royal Avenue was at a complete stop however; unfortunately the vehicle coming from behind did not.
The vehicle struck the motorcycle from the rear causing the motorbike and rider to impact the roadway. Officers rendered assistance. The motorcycle rider, a Sixty-Two year old New Westminster resident, sustained a fracture to the lower left leg and was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital.
The New Westminster Police traffic analyst attended and conducted scene analysis. The investigation continues.
