On Tuesday, October 12th at 2010 Hours, New Westminster Police received a 9-1-1 call from a clerk at a convenience store located in the Four-Hundred Block of Columbia Street advising of a male that was demanding money and threatened the clerk with violence while holding a pocket knife.
Within minutes, patrol officer Lara Dewitt attended the scene. Constable Dewitt, standing just outside of the store, observed that the male was still inside the premise. Police cover units were on route however, when the suspect made eye contact with Constable Dewitt she moved in and immediately gave the suspect commands to show his hands.
After some initial hesitation the suspect complied. Police cover units arrived at scene to assist. The suspect was arrested without incident.
The accused, a 19 year old male from Port Moody was held in custody awaiting transportation to court. Police are recommending charges of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon.
