Off-Duty Police Officer Aids In Arrest

On Tuesday September 7th at 9:00 p.m. off-duty New Westminster police officer Constable Crowston was driving on East Columbia Street in the 800 Block when he observed that the passenger van in front of him was being operated erratically.

Crowston continued his observation of the vehicle as it sped up and slowed down arbitrarily. Constable Crowston contacted New Westminster police dispatch and provided the details as he followed the suspect vehicle.

Patrol officer Wise was dispatched to the area. Constable Wise located the suspect vehicle that Crowston was following. The suspect vehicle was stopped, based on Constable Wise’s observations of the suspects driving and the driver’s demeanor, Constable Wise detained the driver as a suspected impaired driver.

The suspect driver was transported to police headquarters. As a result of the subsequent tests for breath samples and the officer’s observations, the suspect was released on court documents with a pending court date.

The accused is a Forty-Nine year old male New Westminster resident. Recommended charges have been forwarded to Crown Counsel for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
