On Monday July 13th at 2:30 pm the New Westminster police were contacted by a keen eyed Queens Park staff member regarding a child that was left behind by an unknown visiting day camp. The seven year old boy was in good spirits but was unable to offer any information regarding his surname, family name, day camp or, where he resides.
Police officers transported the youngster to police headquarters where he was entertained by Victim Services staff. After numerous calls to lower mainland municipal parks and recreational service’s the officers located contact information on the child. It should be noted that contact information is only available to police agencies.
Mother and son were reunited at the New Westminster police office shortly there after. Other than being spoiled by Victim Services staff the boy was in fine shape albeit confused why he was receiving so much attention. As is protocol in all circumstances involving children, police investigators notified the Ministry of Child and Family Development.
Police investigators are also in contact with the day camp staff and administrators regarding this incident.
