Dispute Leads To A Number Of Arrests And Charges

On July 11th, 2009 at approximately 2130 hours, the New Westminster Police responded to a 911 call of a female in distress in the Queensborough area. According to witnesses, a group of male suspects in possession of sticks and pipes accosted an 18 year old female walking home to her residence. One of the males in the group pointed a handgun at the female and threatened her with physical harm if she did not cooperate in providing them with the location of her boyfriend. It was later determined that the female and her boyfriend had been involved with a dispute with this group of males earlier in the evening.

NWPS Patrol members attended the scene and located the suspect residence. Due to the information regarding the handgun, the Municipal Integrated Emergency Response Team attended to assist in arresting a number of suspects from within the residence.

The New Westminster Police Major Crime Unit was called in to conduct a full investigation into the incident. A search warrant was executed on the suspect residence and a realistic looking pellet gun was located.

Joshua Matthew TOLOSA, a 20 year old New Westminster resident has been now been charged with the following offences:

  1. Assault with a Weapon
  2. Uttering Threats
  3. Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  4. Using an imitation firearm during the commission of an Indictable Offence.

A number of additional subjects were released with various charge recommendations pending.
