Sexual Assault (1100 Block Of Quayside Drive)

On Saturday July 4th at approximately 0100 hrs, a female opened the front lobby door to her apartment building, located in the 1100 block of Quayside drive, when the suspect suddenly appeared from behind and brushed by her stating ‘excuse me’ as he entered the building.

The suspect walked along with the victim to access the lobby elevator. Once inside the elevator the suspect forcefully held the victim and instructed her to be quiet while he touched her in a sexual manner through her clothing. The victim started yelling for help. The elevator door opened several floors later. The victim managed to break free of the suspect and ran into the hallway knocking on apartment suite doors yelling for help.

The suspect fled down a nearby stairwell just before a tenant opened his suite door to check on the disturbance. Witnesses phoned the New Westminster police. Police officers attended the scene immediately including a police canine unit. Search results proved negative for the suspect.

Suspect description; native male, 19 years of age, 5’6 tall with a medium build, short black hair, clean shaven, wearing dark pants and a dark colored hoodie. Suspect photographs are attached.

This incident is currently being investigated by our Major Crime Unit. Police investigators have been in direct communications with surrounding police agencies. The investigation continues and no further information is available at this time.
