This media release is being issued to confirm that the New Westminster Police Service has been asked by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) to conduct an External Police Act Investigation into the Police Involved Shooting involving VPD members on April 5th, 2009.
This Investigation is being conducted with the approval of the Office of the Police Complaints Commission under Section 55.1 of the Police Act. The New Westminster Police Professional Standards Unit has been assigned conduct of the file and NWPS Chief Constable ZAPOTICHNY has been delegated as the Discipline Authority.
The New Westminster Police are in the initial stages of this Investigation and are unable to make any further comment at this time. Media Inquiries may be made to Sergeant Gary WEISHAAR at 604-525-5411.
