Shortly after 1130 PM last night Police and Fire Rescue personnel responded to a boat fire in the 600 block of South Dyke Road in the Queensborough area of New Westminster. Neighbours reported the fire and when emergency personnel arrived the boat was fully engulfed.
Once the fire was brought under control Fire personnel were able to board the vessel where they located a deceased seventy-three-year-old male along with his two dogs which were also deceased.
The vessel is approximately 40’ in length and is believed to been an old passenger ferry which was converted to a live-aboard.
Fire Investigators responded to the incident and will be back on site today, however, at this point no foul play is suspected. The name of the elderly victim is not being released pending notification of his next-of-kin.
