At 2335 hours, January 11th, police officers attended the 700 blk. 5th ave. on report of an attempted theft of a victims backpack. Attending officers obtained the details of the offence and suspect descriptions. A patrol officer located the two suspects in a nearby underground parking lot in the 600 blk. 6th ave. While attempting to arrest the suspects one of the males produce a large can of pepper spray and sprayed the officer in the face. Despite being temporarily blinded by the spray the officer managed to maintain custody of the suspect. Other supporting officers immediately attended the scene and assisted in the arrest of both suspects. EHS attended the scene to assist in decontaminating the arresting officer from the effects of the pepper spray. Two male young offenders were arrested for theft, assault of police officer, and breaching court conditions. Charges pending before the courts.
