Male Charged With Mischief

On Tuesday October Fifth at 0306 Hours, two residents living in the area of the Four-Hundred Block of East Columbia Street contacted the New Westminster Police to advise of observing a male with a baseball bat smashing store windows in the area.

Patrol officers immediately attended the area. The suspect had fled the scene however, based on the description and direction of travel provided by the witnesses, officers soon located the suspect in an alley to the north. The suspect was originally hostile towards police but was soon calmed down and arrested without incident.

The accused, a Thirty-Three year old male from Burnaby, was held for court. Police are recommending charges of mischief. Two area businesses’s had large glass windows smashed with a value of several hundreds of dollars.
