On Monday September Twenty-Seventh at 1912 Hours, the New Westminster Police and Fire Services attended a reported fire at a residence in the Eight-Hundred Block of Royal Avenue.
At scene, police officers and New Westminster Fire Services discovered a male whom had witnessed the fire and extinguished it just before crews arrived. The fire was started in a stairwell at the rear of the residence. Furthermore, the witness was able to identify the suspect that started the fire.
While speaking with police, the accused was seen walking in the area. The accused was arrested without incident. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before the residence was damaged beyond the stairwell.
The accused is a Forty-Six year old New Westminster resident. The accused was held in custody for court. Police are recommending charges of arson.
