Learn about the traffic offence scam

The New Westminster Police Department are warning the public of a recent scam in which victims are notified via e-mail that they’ve committed a traffic offence caught on camera.

The e-mails claim the recipient would be reported to police if the fine for the traffic offence was not paid.

The New Westminster Police Department serves all traffic violations to the vehicle owners in person, and we would never send such notifications via e-mail.

Anyone who receives a similar message is urged not to click on any links, not to send any money or personal information, and to report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

New Westminster residents who have lost money or provided personal information as a result of this scam are encouraged to call our non-emergency line at 604-525-5411.
