Hit and Run MVA

NWPS received a call of a black pick-up truck hitting a pole at the intersection of 20th Street and 6th Avenue. The truck was then seen to leave the scene. Police and Fire attended and a large wooden pole, believed to be an electrical pole, had been completely severed at it's base. It was now remaining upright only because of the attached lines. As the pole was obviously unsafe and believed to be carrying power lines, 20th Street between 6th Ave and 8th Ave was closed to all traffic and City Electrical were called. During the road closure an independent witness approached a member and gave him the licence plate of the suspect vehicle. Checks were made and the registered owner  was contacted and admitted to being the driver at the time of the accident. He was subsequently served with a 90 day immediate roadside prohibition as well as a charge for Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.

Warrant Arrest

While investigating a theft from motor vehicle in the 800 block of Carnarvon, a police officer observed a suspicious male on a bicycle looking into the window of another vehicle. The police officer approached the male who immediately rode off on his bike ignoring police commands to stop. The suspect entered the New Westminster Skytrain Station and jumped on the tracks, and then off the tracks half way between stations. The suspect was taken into custody at which time it was discovered that there was a warrant for his arrest for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.  Held in custody.

Immediate Roadside Prohibition

A vehicle was located being driven with a small fire under the hood. The vehicle was stopped and the fire was put out using an NWPS extinguisher. The driver of the vehicle had been drinking alcohol and failed a roadside breath test. A 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition was issued and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.

Robbery

Five males approached and surrounded the victim and his friend while they were walking in the area of 4th St and Agnes. The victim was then struck from behind by a bottle to the head, and then punched and repeatedly kicked. The suspects stole his cell phone and then fled in two separate directions. Police located four of the suspects, two on the skytrain platform and two on Columbia St. The suspects were arrested and the cell phone recovered.

The victim received a large swelling to the rear of his head, a cut to the forehead (9 stitches) and other various smaller cuts and bruises.

Charged with Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Assault with a Weapon are four 20 year old males from Surrey and Delta.

Impaired Driving / Distracted Driving

A male driver was southbound on 8th Street when he apparently went to answer his phone. As he reached for his phone he crashed his Porsche Cayenne into a Ford Ranger truck parked on the side of 8th Street. As a result of the mva both vehicles were written off . The Porsche Cayenne is worth about $100,000 and as a result of the mva it was destroyed. The driver was issued a 90 day IRP (Immediate Roadside Prohibition) and the vehicle, although heavily damaged, was impounded for 30 days.

Found Snake

A Parks & Recreation worker located what they believed to be a poisonous snake near the Queens Park Arenex. When members attended they located a 4-foot long orange and yellow snake. Police were able to coax the snake into a traffic cone, and then into a recycling bin for transport back to NWPS. The snake was later identified as a corn snake, which is a relatively harmless and non-poisonous snake.

Shooting

Members were called to the 900 block of 12th Street by the ambulance service after a male called in stating he had received a gunshot wound to this hand.   The suspect was no longer on scene. A second residence associated to the suspect was secured, and the Major Crime Unit was assigned. Charges have been approved and a warrant exists for the suspect.
