Month End Report
Theft from Auto
Police were called after a witness observed a male smash the window of a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Hampton Street. The witness followed the male as police flooded the area. The suspect was taken into custody nearby and numerous items which are believed to be stolen were seized from him. The accused was arrested, for Possession of Stolen Property and Mischief and charges are pending against a 39 year old New Westminster resident. This case is an excellent example of assistance provided to the police by members of the community to successfully respond to crime.
Homicide
Police received a call from Emergency Health Services regarding a possible sudden death at a residence in the 100 block of 6th St. Members attended on scene and located a male outside a suite at that address. This male was covered in blood and arrested for murder at which time the victim was located. Shortly thereafter IHIT (Integrated Homicide Investigation Team) was contacted to assume control of the investigation.
Stabbing
Just after 8:30 p.m. several calls were received via dispatch that a stabbing had occurred on the street in the 700 blk of 5th Ave. Just as calls were coming in, a police member in the area observed a male chasing another male northbound in the 500 block of 9th Street. It was determined that the person being chased, a 17 year old male, was the suspect and he was taken into custody. The male chasing the suspect advised that his friend was stabbed and was in the area. The injured 23 year old male was located in the middle of the street in the 700 blk of 5 Avenue. Emergency Ambulance responded as the male was suffering a series of stab wounds. The accused male has been charged with Assault with a Weapon. The victim has undergone surgery and will survive the attack. The matter is being investigated by the New West Police Major Crime Unit.
Suspicious Circumstances
Police responded to a call from the Emergency Health Services regarding an unconscious male bleeding from the head in the lobby of an apartment building in the 600 block of Clarkson Street. Upon arrival the male was located and the ambulance was called into the scene to provide medical assistance. The investigation quickly determined the male was associated to a particular suite where police attended and located an unconscious female. Medical support also attended the suite and were able to rouse the female. Further investigation indicated drug involvement. The lobby video was also viewed and it was determined the male had self inflicted his head injuries by banging his head on the cement outside the lobby. Both subjects were transported to RCH and it was determined they were suffering the effects of excessive GHB ingestion.
