Theft From Canada Games Pool
Police responded to a report from the staff at the Canada Games pool after they had caught a male going through bags in the change room. The manager followed the suspect as he left on foot, towards 8th Ave. The suspect was located at the Chevron Station upon police arrival and he was taken into custody. Two cell phones from two different victims were located along with a wallet belonging to one of the cell owner's. The suspect had already used a credit card at the Chevron to purchase a pay as you go card for his own phone. Upon checking the male for conditions, it was learned he was not to be in possession of any credit cards, therefore he was also arrested for breaching his bail conditions. A 24 year old Vancouver resident is charged with numerous property related offences.
 
 
Armed Robbery/ Forcible Confinement
At approximately 08:03 a.m., the manager of a local bank unlocked the front door to enter for work. The 54 year old male suspect was sitting on a planter just outside the bank. He was dressed in coveralls and a toque, he approached and told her he was going in with her, when she hesitated, he stated he had knives and a gun. The suspect had a box cutter in his hand and directed her to the staff room. The suspect led the victim to the staff room at which time he advised her of his intention to rob the bank. Upon arrival police confronted the suspect who displayed a knife. The suspect was initially slow to respond but eventually did drop it and then complied. The suspect had a bag with him containing tools consistent with his stated purpose. The suspect’s vehicle was seized from a parking lot across the street, it had the license plate covered by a t-shirt. Major Crime has been assigned to coordinate the file. The accused is a New West resident with a history of armed robbery.
 
 
Break and Enter
Shortly after 07:00 a.m. a resident of an apartment building in the unit block of Agnes Street observed a suspicious male in the underground parkade. Given the circumstances the resident contacted police. Members arrived on scene and located the suspicious male still in the underground. He was holding a pry bar in his right hand and he also had a backpack, at which time he was arrested for break and enter. The arrested male had an extensive criminal record for break and enter and a lifetime weapons prohibition. A search of the backpack located serveral items later traced back to vehicle break ins overnight in Burnaby including Canucks tickets and a power converter. After the arrest the male was interviewed and he confessed to breaking into the parkade as well as several vehicles the previous night. The male was remanded in custody for court. A 26 year old New West resident is charged with numerous property related offences.
 
Seized Firearms
Police attended a residence and recovered an unloaded 9mm handgun. The suspect was arrested. Upon further investigation it was determined there was also a sawed-off shotgun in the residence, which was also seized. Investigation continues. The suspect is 19 years of age.
 
Assault Police Officer
A male suspect attended the NWPS Front Counter. The male was arrested pursuant to the Mental Health Act and was transported to the Royal Columbian Hospital for treatment. As the suspect was being booked in to hospital, the nurses asked the police officer to remove his handcuffs. As she did so, the suspect punched her in the face. The officer was able to take the accused into custody. No injuries to the suspect or the officer.
 
Theft from Auto
Members responded to a report of a male having broken into a parked vehicle. The subject was last seen heading westbound on Edinburgh Street and a short time later police observed a male matching the suspect description on Hamilton Street.

The suspect denied any involvement, however, it was soon learned from the vehicle owner that a cell phone had been stolen from his car. The owner was asked to call the phone and immediately the suspect "started ringing." Upon a more detailed search, the suspect was found to have the owner's cell phone hidden inside the palm of his glove. He is now charged with possession of stolen property and mischief relative to this incident.
