Yesterday, a male suspect attempted to lure a young 11-year-old girl into his car while she was returning to school during her lunch break in uptown New Westminster.

At approximately 1240 hours, 14 September, the 11-year-old female, a student at Lord Kelvin Elementary School, was walking in the 700 blk of 6th Avenue when she observed a vehicle driving slowly beside her. When she looked over, the male driver stated, “come in the car” through the open passenger window. The victim immediately ran into the Safeway store and told a clerk at the customer service counter what had happened. The clerk from Safeway escorted the victim to her school (two blocks away) at which time the principal called the Police Service.

The male driver (lone occupant) is described as: white male, 50-60 years old, slim build, short buzz cut, wearing glasses and wearing a blue T shirt. Composite sketch of suspect is attached. The vehicle is described as a newer model 4 door gold with a silver tint (possibly a Honda) No BC license was obtained.

The Police Service commends the young student for acting in the correct manner in immediately running away and telling an adult what had occurred.

Any person having information on the possible identity of the suspect is asked to call Detective Mike MacFarlane @604-525-5411 or Crime Stoppers at 604-669-TIPS (8477)
