NWPD seek public assistance in machete attack

New Westminster – On Sunday, December 7, 2014 at approximately 1:30 am, an unknown male approached the window of a vehicle while the victims were inside preparing to exit the parking lot located at 7th and Belmont Streets in New Westminster.  As the male approached, he produced a machete and started slashing at the vehicle.  The victims quickly drove out of the parking lot before pulling over a short distance away to inspect their vehicle for damage.  While inspecting the vehicle, the unknown male appeared and again produced the machete while approaching the victims before they could retreat inside their vehicle.  The male started slashing at one of the victims and tried to stab him before he was able to fend off his attacker and knock the machete loose while the two of them fell to the ground.  The unknown attacker was able to get to his feet and grab the machete before fleeing the area on foot.

Members responded to the area; however, the male had departed.  Police were unable to locate him despite a lengthy search of the area.  The victim, who does not know his attacker, received lacerations to his fingers and knee during the unprovoked attack.

  • wearing a grey sweatshirt with a white circle and white lettering on the front;

  • running shoes with red soles and red laces.
