The
Home Security Unit of
the New Westminster Police Service strives to inform and assist local
residents
with preventive measures regarding tips about security and safety
around their
residence.
While visiting local homes, volunteers are asked to provide tips, brochures, and speak to the public about security measures in order to help reduce the chances of a Break and Enter.

How safe is your home?
Non-professionals who rely on easy entry to your home commit a substantial number of burglaries.
- Are your door locks adequate?
- Install 1 inch throw deadbolt.
- Do not rely on typical door latches.
- Is your strike plate (mounted on doorframe) reinforced with 2-inch or 3-inch screws?
- Do you have secondary locks on all windows rather than just simple latches provided by the builder or manufacturer?
- Do you know where all the keys are to your home and office?
- When you leave home, even for a short time, do you lock all doors and windows, including any outside shed or garage?
