Jonathon Morey

Jonathan Morey came to New Westminster as a Royal Engineer in 1858 with Colonel Moody to survey the City. After the Columbia Detachment of Royal Engineers was disbanded many members stayed behind to live in the new colony. Many had already had their families sent over from England. When New Westminster Council decided to hire a police constable that would be responsible to them and not the colony, they hired MOREY. MOREY then became New Westminsters first Constable. Many descendants of MOREY still live in the lower mainland of British Columbia.
