CCWP Members Only

The New Westminster Citizens' Crime Watch Patrol is a group of concerned citizens who volunteer their time, vehicles, efforts and expertise to become an extra sets of eyes and ears for the Police Service. The Patrol Team's supervisors, selected from within the group, set up the routine operations for each Watch, working at all times under the direct supervision of the New Westminster Police Service.

Volunteers in the Patrol are observers and reporters only. They are not expected nor permitted to get directly involved if any offence is seen being committed. Their function is to observe and report by radio any suspicious occurrence. It is the responsibility of the police to deal with offenders.

As directed by the Police Service, CCWP volunteers patrol city streets, parks, and other public areas in their privately owned automobiles. Suspicious activity, abandoned autos, and other information of interest is passed along to the Police via (supplied) two-way radios. Information received from CCWP personnel has led to some spectacular arrests, and the program is well supported within the community!

A commitment of six hours monthly will help the Police Service help you.

The Citizens' Crime Watch Patrol (CCWP) commenced operations in March of 1983 with a handful of volunteers working under the auspices of the Police Department. The first base station was located in a private home.

Simce then, the program has progressed, putting out patrols two or more nights per week until the early hours of the morning as required by the police. Using data from the ICBC Stolen Auto Recovery Program , the volunteers also check for possible stolen vehicles using laptop computers.

The patrol still boasts some of the original members. Due to normal attrition, however, there is an ongoing need for extra volunteers. This is where you come in. The Citizens' Crime Watch patrol is looking for people who would like to give some of their time to their community and the police.
