Police Information Checks now available online

New Westminster – As part of our ongoing effort to optimize the use of technology, enhance efficiency, and better serve members of the public, the New Westminster Police Department is pleased to announce the launch of a new online application process for employment and volunteer Police Information Checks.

Available now via the NWPD website at www.nwpolice.org, this new feature allows residents of New Westminster to apply for a Police Information Check 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without having to attend the police department. All aspects of the process – including verification of identity and fee processing – are handled electronically using a platform provided by Triton Canada Inc., a secure, third-party provider.

“The success of our Crime Mapping, our MobilePD alerts, and Crime Stoppers reporting – among others – is testament not only to the growing role technology plays in policing, but to the public’s desire to use it,” said Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “We anticipate that this newest online offering will be no different, and we are excited to make it available to the people of New Westminster.”

When applying online for a Police Information Check, users are guided step-by-step through the process and if there are no concerns or follow-up required, the requested police information results will be mailed directly to the applicant.

To use the online application process users must:

  • Be a resident of the City of New Westminster.
  • Have an email account.
  • Pass Electronic Identity Verification (EIV) which is a series of questions generated by a Canadian Credit Bureau pertaining to your credit information to confirm your identity.
  • Persons who have insufficient credit information, may fail the Electronic Identity Verification (EIV). You can still apply online however you will need to attend the New Westminster Police Department Headquarters at 555 Columbia Street in New Westminster with 2 pieces of accepted identification to have your identity verified in person before your application will be processed.
  • For volunteer related Police Information Checks, have the ability to scan or upload the volunteer letter from the agency or organization that requires the Police Information Check or use a smartphone to take a photo of the letter.
