New Westminster Police interrupt possible attempted theft from construction site

New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department is currently investigating an incident that occurred on March 8, 2017 at approximately 2:00am involving the possible attempted theft of construction tools.

Police were called at 2:17am on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 to a construction site on Carnarvon Street. Initial information indicates that a male suspect was observed jumping the fence into the construction site. As Constables arrived on scene the suspect was allegedly heard moving around inside the property. As the suspect exited the property he was taken into custody without incident.

“Construction sites can be easy targets for theft,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “If you must leave tools on site we suggest locking them up and investing in cameras, alarms, or the services of a security company. It’s also worth the extra time to inventory the equipment that you have on site. This includes taking pictures of all equipment that you have, and recording serial numbers and exact equipment makes, models and years. This can help our investigations.”
