Q.    I need to have a Criminal Records check conducted.
         What is required?



 A.
  • You must live in the city of New Westminster and produce proof of residency, or;
    • be an employee of the City of New Westminster, or;
    • be a student attending the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC).
  • You must produce two pieces of Government Issued identification
    • One must bear your photograph and show your current New Westminster address.
    • credit cards, bank cards and student identification are not acceptable as proof of identification.
  • You must have a letter written on the letterhead stationery of the organization you are applying to explaining the position (paid, volunteer, practicum) you are applying for.
    • We will not accept any Criminal Records Check application without a letter.
  • "Consent for Criminal Record Search" forms are available at the police station and must be completed in our office by the applicant.

Q.    Is there a fee charged for a Criminal Records check?



 A.
STUDENTS:

Students/Practicum Students or those persons applying to attend schools which require a Criminal Records Check, YES;

  • the cost is $62.00 (GST included).

JOB APPLICANTS:

Those persons applying for employment with an employer who requires a Criminal Records Check, YES;

  • the cost is $62.00 (GST included).

VOLUNTEERS:

Those persons applying for a position as a volunteer with an organization that requires a Criminal Records Check, NO;

  • There is no charge for persons requiring a Criminal Records check for a volunteer position, HOWEVER, this must be outlined in a letter as described above.

FOR ALL OTHER PURPOSES:

For those persons requiring a Criminal Records Check for any purpose other than those listed above, YES;

  • the cost is $62.00 (GST included).
  • The fee for additional Family members living in the same household and applying for a Criminal Records Check at the same time is $11.25 (GST included)
