1. Where is the New Westminster Police Station?
  • Our address is 555 Columbia Street.
  • We are located at the corner of 6th and Columbia Streets, 3 blocks down the hill from the New Westminster city hall and the Royal Towers Hotel.
  • Pass a security clearance and police checks including all police information systems, integrity test, reference check, fingerprinting and interview with the New Westminster Police.

2. I need to have a Criminal Records check conducted. What is required?
  • You must live in the city of New Westminster and produce proof of residency, or;
    • be an employee of the City of New Westminster, or;
    • be a student attending the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC).
  • You must produce two pieces of Government Issued identification
    • One must bear your photograph and show your current New Westminster address.
    • credit cards, bank cards and student identification are not acceptable as proof of identification.
  • You must have a letter written on the letterhead stationery of the organization you are applying to explaining the position (paid, volunteer, practicum) you are applying for.
    • We will not accept any Criminal Records Check application without a letter.
  • "Consent for Criminal Record Search" forms are available at the police station and must be completed in our office by the applicant.


3. Is there a fee charged for a Criminal Records check?
  • STUDENTS:
    • Students/Practicum Students or those persons applying to attend schools which require a Criminal Records Check, YES;
    • the cost is $62.00 (GST included).
  • JOB APPLICANTS:
    • Those persons applying for employment with an employer who requires a Criminal Records Check, YES;
    • the cost is $62.00 (GST included).
  • VOLUNTEERS:
    • Those persons applying for a position as a volunteer with an organization that requires a Criminal Records Check, NO;
    • There is no charge for persons requiring a Criminal Records check for a volunteer position, HOWEVER, this must be outlined in a letter as described above.
  • FOR ALL OTHER PURPOSES:
    • For those persons requiring a Criminal Records Check for any purpose other than those listed above, YES;
    • the cost is $62.00 (GST included).
    • The fee for additional Family members living in the same household and applying for a Criminal Records Check at the same time is $11.25 (GST included)

  • Pick up an application form from any police department. Self-explanatory instructions are included.
