Citizens' Foot Patrol
Our most recent NWPS crime prevention initiative is the Citizens' Foot Patrol Program. This program was launched in June 2006 as a result of the success of citizens on patrol using bicycles and vehicles in two of our other programs. Under the direction of the police, volunteers on foot focus on auto crime hot spots, such as parkades and parking lots, in hope of deterring auto crime activity and acting as extra eyes and ears. Volunteers use hand-held devices to run license plates in search of stolen vehicles and plates while giving out crime prevention notices to vehicles that may be a target to thieves.
Benefits of becoming a citizens' foot patrol member:
- Belong to a small, dedicated team of professional volunteers
- Training and learning opportunities on the subject of auto crime
- Physical activity of walking outdoors
